Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in Rampart Division.
On December 20, 2025, around 8:25 p.m., uniformed officers from Rampart Patrol Division responded to a radio call regarding three loose dogs that were lunging at church patrons in the area of the 800 block of Venice Boulevard. Comments of the call indicated the dogs had chased one church patron onto the roof of her vehicle.
When officers arrived, they located three individuals who had sustained dog bite injuries and requested the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) to respond to the location to provide medical assistance.
The officers then observed three large dogs running freely in the area and requested a response from Los Angeles Animal Services. While awaiting their arrival, officers requested additional units to assist. As additional units arrived, and officers moved toward the dogs’ location, the dogs began chasing a community member who was riding a scooter toward the officers. As the community member passed the officers, one of the dogs made a sudden advance at an officer, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS). Following the discharge, all three dogs fled the immediate area and concealed themselves nearby.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and transported the three injured victims to California Hospital Medical Center for further treatment. Los Angeles Animal Services responded to the scene and took custody of the three dogs.
No officers or additional community members were injured during this incident.
Force Investigation Division (FID) personnel responded to the scene and assumed investigative responsibility for this incident.
