"Officers Make Welfare Check And Find Homicide Victim"
 
Los Angeles – On Friday afternoon, May 25, 2001, at approximately
12:15 pm, 77th Street Police Officers responded to a Welfare Check at 1050 West 58th Street. Upon arrival officer’s received information that the resident of the location had not been seen since Wednesday, May 23, 2001, about 9:40 in the morning. Assisted by Fire Department personnel, officers forced entry into the location. The body of a deceased female was located in the hallway of the location. An investigator of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office responded to the location and his preliminary investigation revealed the victim had been bludgeoned to death.
The motive and type of weapon used has not been determined. The detectives have determined that the victim’s vehicle is missing. The vehicle is described as a 1982 Ford Granada, brown in color, with a California license plate of 1ERE811.
The victim has been identified as Joyce F. Broomfield, 63 years of age.
Detectives are attempting to locate Jason Michael Tackwood, the 21 year old grandson of the victim. The grandson is known to reside at the same residence.
