Officers Raise Fund for Child’s Funeral

September 13, 2000

Los Angeles: On August 16, 2000 at 6:20 p.m., two and one half year old Chris Cajina was struck and killed by a hit and run driver at 61st Street and Main Street in the City of Los Angeles. Members of the Los Angeles Police Department conducted an immediate follow-up investigation, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect a short time later.

During the investigation, officers learned that Chris’ family had very limited means with which to make funeral arrangements for their child. Members of the Los Angeles Police Department were so moved by this tragedy that a fund raising drive began to provide assistance to the family. The fund drive headed by Sergeant Ken Kessner managed to raise $2,000.00.

On Thursday, September 14, 2000, at 11:30 a.m., a press conference will be held at LAPD Newton Station, 3400 South Central Avenue, at which time Chris’ family will be presented with the collected funds.
