Los Angeles: On Friday, June 7, 2002, at 6:40 a.m., Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Transit Operations Supervisor Steven Earl assigned to the Redline reported a kitten with its paws stuck in an escalator.
Officers Juan Contreras and Kimmie W. Dixon assigned to Transit Rail Division (TRD), were assigned the call and responded to the Redline Station located at Beverly Boulevard and Vermont Avenue. Due to Mr. Earl’s need to remain in the station, TRD officers agreed to transport the calico kitten, promptly named "Beverly".
Not realizing the extent of her injury and the animal shelter being closed, Police Service Representatives from Communications Division stated they would care for the kitten. From that location, the kitten was transported by a family member of a PSR to a local veterinarian who has determined the kitten is in dire medical need due to her paws being crushed by the escalator.
For further information contact PSR Andrea Sansone, Communications Division at 213-485-3223, or Peggy Shannon, Transit Rail Division at 213-922-3620.
