DETAILS: In an effort to improve quality of life for those in need, Olympic Division is partnering up with local organizations to host a homeless outreach program. The program is a combined effort to give homeless individuals and their families an avenue to better their living conditions. The program will address quality of life issues and provide access to food, shelter, short time housing, medical services and mental health resources.

Deputy Chief Girmala, Captain Malachi, Captain Storaker and others will hand out care packages to homeless in need. The event will also include a street cleaning segment implemented by the Sunburst Youth Academy Volunteers.

The Sunburst Youth Academy is a partnership between the Los Angeles Police Department and the Army/National Guard which takes in troubled teens from the inner-cities and teaches life skills, responsibility and discipline. This five month, live-in academy is federally funded and is the first Sunburst Academy partnership of its kind between the Department and the Army/National Guard.
