"One Victim Dies, One is Injured in Gang-Related Shooting"

Los Angeles – On Sunday, May 21, 2000, at approximately 3:05 a.m., Victims Dion Hill, 19 years old, male Black, and Marvis Curtis, 19 years old, male Black, were standing in front of 6923 South 10th Avenue, Los Angeles. Unknown suspects approached the victims in two separate vehicles, which were described by witnesses as compact cars; one of the cars was white and the other possible gray in color.

The suspect(s) fired several rounds in the direction of Hill and Curtis. Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their lower extremities. Curtis fell to the ground at the scene, and Hill was able to run to the driveway of an apartment building, located on the 3200 Block of West 71st Street, where he collapsed as a result of his injuries.

The suspects were last seen by witnesses driving away in their vehicles at a high rate of speed. The suspect drove in tandem southbound 10th Avenue and then westbound Florence Avenue.

Los Angeles Fire Department Rescue Units 33 and 57 responded and transported Dion Hill and Marvis Curtis to local hospitals for medical treatment. Hill succumbed due to his injuries and Curtis is listed in stable condition.

The incident appears to be gang related. The weapons involved in the crime are still outstanding.
