Los Angeles: On Thursday, November 6, 2003 the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Fire Department have joined in a partnership to address a serious concern for both departments and the citizens of Los Angeles.
Deputy Chief Cayler L. Carter, Commanding Officer of Operations West Bureau and Battalion Chief Millage Peaks of the Los Angeles Fire Department will discuss the program, which addresses educating the motoring public and achieving voluntary compliance with the law.
The purpose of this event is to reduce serious and fatal traffic collisions caused by vehicles that fail to yield to emergency vehicles operating with lights and sirens. Specially trained members of the Los Angeles Fire Department will monitor vehicles failing to yield to emergency vehicles as they respond to calls for service. The Los Angeles Police Department will identify the registered owners of the vehicles and forward a letter advising the violator of the violation and the importance to yield to emergency vehicles.
This program is a multi agency operation with a common goal to reduce traffic collisions and save lives by increasing the public’s awareness regarding the necessity to yield to all emergency vehicles operating Code-3.
