Why:
Every year head and neck cancers are diagnosed in about 60,000 Americans and affect 900,000 people worldwide making it the world’s sixth most common cancer.  One person dies from this cancer every 60 minutes.  An alarming aspect of this cancer is that there is a less than 50 percent survival rate for more than five years after initial diagnosis.  This is primarily because early warning signs of head and neck cancer are frequently ignored.  It is because of this, that public awareness campaigns are so important.  Support groups for this type of cancer are incredibly important because 90 percent of patients will have physical disfigurement due to the disease and treatment.
