Why:
Will discuss the impact of the State’s realignment plan and will call on Sacramento to provide immediate funding directly to cities to manage the influx of offenders.

Beginning October 1, 2011, the State’s "Public Safety Realignment Plan" will shift the burden of housing prisoners and monitoring them upon release, from the state to counties.

Under this plan, approximately 4,230 non-violent, non-serious, non-sex offenders will be released from prison in the first year and returning to the City of Los Angeles. The City received zero funding to manage this off-loading of convicted criminals from the State.
