Pedestrian killed by Reckless Driver

Los Angeles: On December 21, 2005 at 9:20 AM, a fatal traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Barrington Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard in the City of Los Angeles.

Daniel Erez, an 18 year-old resident of Santa Monica, was driving a 2000 Saturn eastbound on Santa Monica Boulevard at a high rate of speed. He entered the intersection against the red signal and collided with a 2004 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 29 year-old woman, a resident of Los Angeles. The Saturn continued in a northeasterly direction, ran off the roadway and plowed into a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 24 year-old female, a resident of Los Angeles, her name is currently being withheld pending notification to her family. She received fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics transported Daniel Erez and the woman driverto UCLA Medical Center. Erez was admitted in critical condition, and the woman driver was admitted in serious but stable condition.

Due to the reckless driving observed by witnesses, Erez was placed under arrest for Gross Vehicular Manslaughter. He will remain in guarded custody until he can medically be moved to the Los Angeles County Jail Ward. His bail has been set at $50,000.
