Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run
Sylmar: The Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division detectives (VTD) are investigating a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision that killed a man in his 20’s.
On July 20, 2025, around 9:45 p.m., a black truck driven by the suspect was traveling east on Polk Street when it hit a pedestrian walking north just west of De Garmo Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk. The vehicle continued east on Polk Street without stopping to identify themselves or render aid as required by law.
The Los Angeles Fire Department’s paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. The victim is described as a male, Hispanic, in his mid-twenties. His name is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
VTD Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward with any information regarding this hit-and-run.
Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.
On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
