Los Angeles: On Thursday, May 10, 2001, at 10:00 A.M., the Los Angeles Police Department, Valley Traffic Services Unit, in conjunction with Transit Bus Division, will be holding a press conference to the rear of the "El Gallo Giro" located on the northwest corner of Van Nuys Boulevard and Roscoe Boulevard.
The press conference will be held to announce the deployment of officers to provide pedestrian enforcement. This special deployment is to curtail the growing number of pedestrians involved in traffic collisions in the valley area. Particular enforcement will be directed at pedestrians running to catch buses. This enforcement effort will be concentrated in the areas of Sepulveda Boulevard and Roscoe Boulevard and at Van Nuys Boulevard and Roscoe Boulevard.
In addition to heightened law enforcement, Valley Traffic Division has augmented its educational efforts on pedestrian and vehicular safety. " We take every opportunity to promote safety and to make people aware of the rules of the road, especially we emphasize educating children," said Lieutenant Bustos from Valley Traffic Division. "Unfortunately, some parents verbally teach their children one thing, but their actions teach unsafe practices," he added.
Lieutenant Bill Bustos will be coordinating the press conference.
