March 23, 2007

What:
Pedestrian Violation Enforcement Operation

When:
April 3, 2007
Daylight Hours

Where:
Wilshire Area: Western Avenue, Pico Boulevard and Venice Boulevard
Hollywood Area: Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard and Melrose Avenue

Who:
West Traffic Division Officers

Why:
The Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division wants to make the public aware of an increase in the frequency of pedestrian related traffic collisions occurring in both the Hollywood and Wilshire areas of the City.

There have been 92 serious injury or fatal traffic collisions that have occurred in the same area from January 2007 to the present.  The majority of theses collisions are occurring during the daytime hours, where the pedestrian is attempting to cross the street outside of a marked crosswalk or not obeying the pedestrian signals at intersections in violation of the California Vehicle Code.  Pedestrians are reminded to cross streets at marked crosswalks and to obey the pedestrian signals where they have the right of way.  Pedestrians attempting to cross the street outside of a crosswalk do not have the right of way and cross at their own peril.
