"Personal Security IX
Nationwide Threat Warning System, Terrorist Threat Advisory Update, End of Ramadan"

Los Angeles: The Counterterrorism Division, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has issued a Nationwide Terrorism Threat Advisory Update to address the Muslim holiday of Ramadan.
The Islamic holy month of Ramadan began on November 17, 2001 and will conclude sometime between December 15 and December 17, 2001. Federal authorities have reviewed credible, albeit uncorroborated intelligence information and have determined that while there is not a specific threat, law enforcement agencies should be on heightened alert to possible terrorist activities during this time frame.
The FBI has also shared uncorroborated information identifying natural gas installations as potential targets of a terrorist attack. These two announcements are not related but serve to illustrate the need for officers to remain vigilant in our efforts to check critical facilities and remain on high alert for suspicious activities. It also illustrates the need for members of the Community to remain aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activities to their local community police station, or call the Department’s 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
This media advisory was prepared by Lieutenant Horace Frank, Officer-in-Charge, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
