"Police Asking for Help Finding Suspects Who Shot and Killed Man During Attempted Robbery"
Los Angeles: On June 2, 2003, at approximately 1:00 a.m., North Hollywood Area patrol officers responded to a shooting call at Fernangeles Park, located in the 8800 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard in Sun Valley. When the officers arrived they discovered the victim, identified as 29 year-old Pedro Carrillo, lying on his back near the parking lot. Los Angeles City Fire Department Paramedics also responded and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Subsequent investigation revealed the victim had arrived at the park with his cousin earlier in the evening. The two had parked their 2002 GMC pick-up truck in the parking lot and walked approximately 75 feet to the baseball diamond to talk. At approximately 1:00 a.m., three male suspects in a mid-sized vehicle pulled up and parked next to their pick-up truck. One suspect got out of the vehicle and walked over to the truck and looked inside. This alerted the victims who made their presence known. The suspects got back into their vehicle and drove near the victims. At this time, two suspects got out of their vehicle, one holding a shotgun. The suspects walked toward the victims who were quickly trying to make it back to their truck. The second victim, a 26 year-old woman, was able to reach the truck but Carrillo was cut off by the suspects and never made it to the truck. Carrillo sustained a single gunshot blast to his upper body. The suspect also shot at the second victim, and missed.
It appears the suspects had returned to rob the victim of his truck.
