Police Asking for Information in Fatal Shooting NR16155pv

May 6, 2016

Tarzana: Detectives are asking for the public’s help in solving a fatal shooting that occurred at the Parc Tarzana Condominiums, today, May 5, 2016, 18620 Hatteras Street, Tarzana.

Police, answering 9-1-1 calls around 2:15 PM, found a man lying in the parking lot east of the complex. He was apparently shot at least one time. One police officer rendered CPR prior to paramedics arriving, but the man died at the scene.

“We have not confirmed the victim’s identity yet, but we believe he lived at the complex,” said Capt. Paul Vernon, commanding officer of the West Valley Patrol Division. “The parking lot has a security gate on both ends, which would tend to restrict persons who don’t belong there.”

Witnesses reported hearing gun shots and what sounded like a car crash. A man and a woman were seen running from a small car, which police found crashed into a wall. Other witnesses reported seeing the victim stagger away from the same car and collapse, where officers found him. Officers determined the abandoned car had been stolen recently.

“We have yet to determine if the victim was shot while in the car, or while standing outside of it,” Capt. Vernon added. “Evidence, forensics, and witness’ statements will help us narrow that down. What we really need now is that bit of information that will tie the victim to his assailants. It appears he probably knew them to some degree.”

The victim’s name will be released once his family has been notified.
