On Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at approximately 2:15 p.m., 84 year-old Ung Phat of Los Angeles, was walking northbound in an unmarked crosswalk at Broadway Street and Gates Street, when he was struck by an early 80’s black Ford Mustang traveling westbound on Broadway Street. As a result of the collision, Mr. Phat sustained traumatic blunt force injuries and was transported to USCMC Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and identify himself, in violation of 20001(a) VC, and is currently being sought by the Los Angeles Police Department for questioning.
The Los Angeles Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle. The vehicle is described as an early 1980’s black, 2-door, Ford Mustang with a luggage rack on top of the trunk.
