Los Angeles: On Wednesday, July 18, 2001, a deceased newborn baby girl was found concealed in a mint green and white diaper bag and left abandoned in a trash dumpster located in the alley behind 1152 North Broad Avenue, in the city of Wilmington.
Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department Juvenile Division, Abused Child Unit, are investigating this incident and are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the person or persons responsible for the murder and abandonment of this newborn.
The Los Angeles Police Department would like to remind the citizens of Los Angeles County that as of January 1, 2001 a new bill was passed into legislation (SB 1368 Save a Baby Bill), which allows mothers confidentiality with the guarantee of no criminal prosecution if their newborn child is surrendered unharmed within the first 72 hours of life. They may do this with any hospital emergency department employee in the state of California.
If you have any information, contact Detectives Nancy Nelson or Pete Wilson, Juvenile Division, Abused Child Unit, at 818-756-8748, Monday through Friday, between 7:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. During non-business hours, and on weekends and holidays, please contact Detective Headquarters Division at 213-485-2504. All information will be kept strictly confidential.
