"Rampart Detectives Investigate Stabbing Death"
 

Los Angeles: On Saturday, January 19, 2002 at approximately 3:55 a.m., Rampart Uniformed Officers responded to an "Assault with a Deadly Weapon" investigation at Alvarado Street and Kent Street. Upon arrival the officers observed Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics providing emergency medical treatment to the victim, described as a female, approximately 25 to 30 years of age. The victim sustained stab wounds to her upper torso. The victim was transported to USC Medical Center where she died as the result of her wounds.
The investigation revealed that an unidentified witness called 911 and stated a possible suspect was observed running southbound on Alvarado Street with the victim’s purse. No further description of the suspect was provided. The suspect and weapon are not in custody.
Rampart Homicide detectives responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
The motive for the stabbing is unknown. Detectives are unable to determine if the victim’s purse was taken. The identity of the victim is unknown.
