Reception Scheduled to Honor the First Female Officer in the History of the Los Angeles Police Department to Promote to Deputy Chief

Los Angeles – On Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at 5 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department’s employee organizations will host a reception in honor of Deputy Chief Peggy York at the Los Angeles Central Library, Flora Thornton Courtyard, located at 630 West 5th Street, in Los Angeles. Deputy Chief York is the first female officer in the history of the Los Angeles Police Department to attain the rank of Deputy Chief. A number of dignitaries and VIPs are expected to attend the evening event.

Chief York is a 32-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department. In her new assignment as Commanding Officer of Central Bureau, she will oversee five community police stations; Central, Rampart, Northeast, Hollenbeck and Newton.
