On July 17, 2010, at around 12 p.m., a lone gunman entered a Radio Shack in the 17600 block of Vanowen Street in the area of Reseda.  Inside the store at the time were six customers and a store employee.  The suspect armed himself with a handgun as he quickly converged on the store employee and customers who were all gathered around the checkout counter.  The suspect placed the gun against the neck of a female customer and ordered the employee to empty the register.  After obtaining the contents of the register and placing them in a plastic bag he ordered all of the customers to place their money and valuables into the same bag.
