The Los Angeles Police Department will be holding a press conference to announce a $25,000 reward for information regarding a murder investigation.

Los Angeles: On Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at 3:45 P.M. a press conference will be held at Wilshire Station to announce a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the persons involved in the murder of Karin Avanesov. The family of Mr. Avanesov will be present and will be available to answer any questions the press might have.

On July 6, 2000 at 11:10 PM, the victim, Karin Avanesov, was confronted by two male Hispanics, possible gang member type suspects in their mid-twenties, near Pico Boulevard and Western Avenue. The confrontation turned into a physical assault with the victim attempting to flee by running southbound and westbound through the Shell gas station located at the southwest corner of Western Avenue and Pico Boulevard. The two suspects pursued the victim. The victim turned northbound and ran into the street at 3130 Pico Blvd. The victim then fell to the ground. The suspects caught up to the victim and began beating and stabbing the victim numerous times in the mid-section of his body. This incident was witnessed by numerous people. The suspects then fled running through the Shell gas station to Western Ave. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:44 PM.
The motive is unknown at this time and the suspects have not been identified. The weapon was an unknown type of knife.
The investigation is continuing and being handled by Wilshire Homicide Detectives.
