Los Angeles: The Second Annual Bacon and Scrambled Leggs event is hosted by the Los Angeles Police Equestrian Foundation and the officers of the Mounted Platoon of the Los Angeles Police Department Metropolitan Division.
The race will consist of two-person teams working together as they challenge a course that incorporates trail running and mountain biking. The event will begin with a two-mile trail run, a seven-mile mountain bike ride, and finish with a one-mile sprint.
Proceeds of this event go directly to the Los Angeles Police Equestrian Fund: a non-profit account designed to assist in the purchase of horses and related search and rescue equipment for the Mounted Platoon. The Mounted Platoon is a full-time mounted unit of thirty-one police officers and twenty-five horses. LAPD can house up to 40 horses. The Mounted Platoon is dedicated to crowd control, crime prevention, and search and rescue.
Funds from last year’s event contributed to the acquisition of Colorado. Colorado is a five-year old, 15.2 hands, Chestnut Quarter Horse that is now an integral member of the Mounted Platoon. Colorado, along with other equine members of the platoon, will be present at this year’s event.
The public is cordially invited to assist and/or participate in this fun-filled competitive event that, in addition to providing funds for a worthy cause, serves to strengthen the ties between police officers and the community they serve.
