Severe Felony Hit and Run in Newton Division NR19218ti

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department Central Traffic Detectives are investigating a Severe Felony Hit and Run that occurred at Maple Avenue and 37th Street.

On August 6, 2019, around 8:50 p.m., a possible blue Honda Accord was driving southbound Maple Avenue approaching 37th Street. The intersection of Maple Avenue and 37th Street is controlled by 4-way “Stop” signs. A 15-year old male Hispanic bicyclist was travelling eastbound in the south cross walk of the intersection. The driver of the Honda failed to stop for the “Stop” sign, continued through the intersection, and collided into the bicyclist.

As the Honda continued southbound, the bicyclist went under the Honda, and he was dragged for approximately 1500-feet before being dislodged at Woodlawn Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The Honda was last seen fleeing westbound Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from Woodlawn Avenue.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital, with severe injuries, and was admitted into the intensive care unit after undergoing surgery.
