detectives have cleared the original suspect sought of any
wrongdoing. Detectives are now seeking the public’s assistance in
identifying the suspect, pictured below, in the murder of Eric

The suspect is described as as an older male Hispanic with black
hair and a goatee. He was wearing a black jacket with white
stripes, a gray work shirt, light blue jeans, and brown work

detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Bureau
are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect
who killed 48-year-old Erik Perez.

On Monday, January 6th, 2020, around 7:30 p.m., Rampart Area
uniformed patrol officers responded to a radio call of a victim
down on the 900 block of South Alvarado Street. When officers
arrived, they discovered a victim on the sidewalk with a gunshot
wound to his chest.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced
the victim dead at scene.

The investigation revealed the suspect walked southbound on
Alvarado Street and passed the victim on the east sidewalk. The
suspect stopped, turned around, and shouted at the victim. The
victim turned and faced the suspect. Both victim and suspect
walked toward each other, at which time the suspect produced a
handgun from his waistband. The suspect fired one shot, striking
the victim in the chest. The suspect fled on foot, southbound on
Alvarado Street to eastbound Olympic Boulevard.
