Los Angeles – On Monday, July 2, 2001 at approximately 1:00P.M., Gregory Smith, 35 years of age was driving his 1991 Chevy Pick-up truck northbound on the 500 block of North Mission Road. As he was approaching Gallardo Street, he lost control of his vehicle and skidded into the southbound lanes of Mission Road. The rear of Smith’s vehicle made contact with the left side of a 1995 Mercury Tracer, driven by 37 year old Rodolfo Araujo. The force of the impact extended to the left rear passenger area of the Mercury Tracer, critically injuring 64 year old Federico Virelas of San Jose, CA. Virelas was transported to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center where he later died as a result of massive blunt force trauma.
