Sobriety and Driver’s License Checkpoint

December 30, 2002

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles police Department’s Central Traffic Division will be conducting a combined sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on Tuesday, December 31, 2002, from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. the following morning. The checkpoint will be located on Vermont Avenue between 6th Street and Wilshire Boulevard.
A combined sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint will focus attention on education and enforcement of impaired and unlicensed drivers.
It is believed that the majority of hit and run traffic collisions involve either DUI and/or unlicensed drivers. Drinking and driving is an unacceptable behavior, which causes impairment, which may lead to property damage, injury or death. The Los Angeles Police Department strongly advises a designated sober driver for those who choose to go out and drink. Additionally, driving without having a valid driver’s license is against the law and the operator could be arrested and the vehicle impounded.
