Los Angeles – On Friday, April 13, 2001, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division will be conducting a combined sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on Central Avenue between Vernon Avenue and 45th Street. The purpose of the checkpoint is to focus attention on education and enforcement of impaired and unlicensed drivers. Officers will attempt to utilize the checkpoint in reducing traffic collisions caused by operating a motor vehicle upon the roadway while under the influence. Officers will also heighten the public’s awareness, and at the same time enforce the law.
