Sobriety and Drivers License Checkpoint in the Valley

November 29, 2008

What:
Sobriety/Driver’s License Checkpoint

When:
Saturday, December 26, 2008
7:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.

Where:
Lankershim Boulevard & Kittridge Street

Who:
Valley Traffic Officers

Why:
The purpose of the Sobriety/Driver’s License checkpoint is to reduce the number of traffic collisions involving intoxicated and hit and run collisions.  This advisory is to initiate media attention and enhance public awareness on the dangers of drinking and driving.  During the past year, the communities of Sun Valley and North Hollywood have endured over 170 DUI traffic collisions.  The alcohol & drug impaired driver is a danger to everyone.  In addition, there have been over 1,335 “Hit and Run” collisions.  This type of crime is closely associated to the unlicensed driver.  Motorists approaching the checkpoint will see information advising them that a checkpoint is ahead.  Once diverted into a lane, each motorist will be detained a few moments while an officer explains the purpose of the checkpoint.  The California Office of Traffic Safety will fund the checkpoint.

For further information contact Sergeant Robert Kirk, Valley Traffic Division, at 818-644-8010, or Media Relations Section at 213-485-3586.
