South Bureau Homicide Investigates Fatal Shooting

On Monday, August 23, 1999, at approximately 1:55 pm, the victim, along with his wife and two children were driving in the victim’s burgundy Ford Expedition. The family was traveling southbound in the number one lane of Avalon Boulevard. The victim, along with several other vehicles had stopped for the red tri-light at 92nd Street. As the victim was waiting for the red tri-light to change, two male Hispanics in a mid 80’s white Camaro drove southbound in the northbound number one lane of Avalon Boulevard. As the suspect’s vehicle got to the left front of the victim’s vehicle, the passenger in the suspect’s vehicle fired multiple gunshots into the driver area of the victim’s vehicle. The suspects were last seen fleeing in their vehicle eastbound on 92nd Street from Avalon Boulevard. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Los Angeles Fire Department Rescue Ambulance responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The victim was identified as Rogelio Gonzalez, 35 years of age. The victim’s wife and children were not injured.

The motive for this shooting has not been established.
