South Traffic Officer-Involved Shooting Animal – NRF036-21ne

On July 5, 2021 around 3:50 p.m., a South Traffic Division motor officer was investigating a traffic collision at the intersection of Figueroa Street and 132nd Street. While attempting to make contact a potential witness, a large German Shepherd emerged from a parking lot. The officer attempted to back away from the dog; however, it ran toward the officer, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting. The officer fired two rounds from his pistol, striking the dog.

The dog was located a short distance away and transported to an animal hospital for treatment.

No officers were injured during the incident and no arrests were made.

Force Investigation Division (FID) responded and is investigating the incident.
