Southeast Officer-Involved Shooting Animal – NRF035-21ne

On July 5, 2021 around 6:15 p.m., Southeast patrol officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon (ADW) radio call at the 9900 block of Graham Avenue. The officers; initial investigation determined no crime had occurred and uncuffed a female suspect. As the officers were preparing to leave the location, the suspect entered her driveway and released her Pitbull dog. The officers entered their police vehicles, and as they drove away, the suspect threw two glass bottles towards the officers. The officers exited their vehicles, at which point the dog charged at one of the officers. The officer attempted to back away, but the dog continued to charge, resulting in the officer firing one round and striking the dog.

The dog died at scene.

No officers were injured during the incident. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and transported to Southeast Station for booking.

Force Investigation Division (FID) detectives responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
