San Pedro – On Saturday, June 9, 2001, between the hours of 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., Harbor Community Police Station will host its 5th "Stop the Violence Community Block Party" at the intersection of 3rd Street and Mesa Street, in San Pedro. Los Angeles Police Chief, Bernard C. Parks, and Harbor Community Police Station Captain, Paul M. Kim, will attend the event and will be available to speak with community members regarding issues of concern in the area. Through these community block parties, the hard working, law-abiding residents within the selected neighborhoods can meet their local police officers and realize a sense of empowerment in our mutual efforts to help combat and reduce the fear and incidence of crime.
The event will feature live entertainers, police support groups, local business representatives, outreach groups, employment agencies, gang counselors, LAPD Explorers and Reserve Officers, D.A.R.E. Officers and LAPD Recruitment Officers. Scheduled entertainment will include Gospel Singers and a Karate demonstration. There will be plenty of food and drinks available.
