Harbor City – On Saturday, April 21, 2001, between the hours of 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., Harbor Community Police Station will host its 4th "Stop the Violence Community Block Party" at the intersection of 253rd Street and Belle Porte Avenue, in Harbor City. Los Angeles Police Chief, Bernard C. Parks, and Harbor Station Community Police Captain, Paul M. Kim, will attend the event and will be available to speak with community members regarding issues of concern in the area. Through these community block parties, the hard working, law-abiding citizens within the selected neighborhoods can meet their local police officers and can realize a sense of empowerment in our mutual efforts to help combat and reduce the fear of crime.
The event will feature entertainers, police support groups, local business representatives, outreach groups, employment agencies, gang counselors, LAPD Explorers and Reserve Officers representatives, D.A.R.E., LAPD Recruitment, Atomic Boxing, YWCA, PACE, La Clinica del Pueblo, local churches, the Toberman Settlement House, Beacon House, and many more participants. The entertainment curriculum will include boxing and karate exhibitions, live music and Valet Folklorico Dancers. There will be plenty of food and drinks available.
A community beautification effort is scheduled to take place prior to the commencement of the block party. Volunteers are needed to cleanup the area around Belle Porte Avenue and 253rd Street. The cleanup will take place from 8:00 to 10:00 A.M. Interested volunteers are urged to contact Community Relations Office, Harbor Community Police Station, at 310-548-7600.
