Los Angeles: On April 27, 2023, around 10:15 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers assigned to the Metro Red Line were conducting routine activities.  The officers observed a male on board the train in possession of narcotic paraphernalia.  The officers approached the suspect and escorted him off the train, pending a narcotic investigation.

After the suspect was escorted off the train, the suspect became violent and fought with the officers, resulting in a Use of Force.  During the Use of Force, a portion of the Sergeant’s finger was bitten off by the suspect.

The suspect was taken into custody and arrested for 203 PC (Mayhem) and 69 PC, Resisting an Executive Order.  The Sergeant was transported by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics to a local hospital for treatment.  The suspect also sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

“I’m deeply disturbed by the vicious and gruesome attack on our Sergeant as he and other officers were simply conducting routine patrol of the transit line.  We remain committed to our work each day to improve the safety of the entire transit system with dedicated patrols engaging those who pose a risk to the safety of others” Chief Moore stated.
