Sherman Oaks: The Los Angeles Police Department Van Nuys Detectives announce the arrest of a suspect responsible for kidnapping.

On April 20, 2023, around 9:05 a.m., a driver for a medical transportation company parked the company van near the 15000 Block of La Maida Street. The driver exited the vehicle to pick up a passenger. The vehicle had a 93-year-old, male passenger still seated inside, when a female suspect entered the driver seat of the vehicle and drove away with the male occupant still seated inside.

The police was notified and Van Nuys Patrol Division officers were able to quickly locate the vehicle with the assistance of a Department helicopter from the Air Support Unit. The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle; however, the suspect failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated. During the pursuit, the suspect drove the vehicle in an extremely reckless manner.
