Suspect Attempts to Kidnap Victim From Laundromat

On Monday, January 3, 2000, at approximately 6:00 A.M., the victim, a 23 year old female, was at a laundromat located in the 20900 block of Roscoe Boulevard, in Canoga Park. A male entered the laundromat and informed the woman that there was a problem with her car. She went outside and discovered no problem. As she was re-entering the location, the same male grabbed her from behind and pulled her to a nearby car. As he was attempting to put her into the car, she fought with him and escaped. The male fled from the location in his car.

The victim called the police from the laundromat and reported the incident. Responding officers obtained the description of the suspect and vehicle, and broadcast that information to other units.

Approximately 30 minutes later, a Devonshire Patrol unit saw a possible vehicle and suspect at Bryant Street and DeSoto Avenue. The suspect, upon seeing the police car, abandoned his vehicle and fled into an apartment complex. A perimeter was established, and with the assistance of numerous unidentified citizens, who informed officers of the suspect’s flight, he was located in an another apartment complex located in the 8600 block of DeSoto Avenue.

The suspect was identified as Renaldo Roger Duncan, a 37 year old male Black with black hair, brown eyes, 6’0" tall and 180 pounds and resident of Canoga Park, was arrested for 207 P.C., Kidnap, and detained at Van Nuys Jail with a $100,000 bail.

Devonshire Detectives, Major Assault Crimes Unit, are conducting the investigation.
