Suspect Shot Ex-girlfriend’s Companion

Los Angeles: On Sunday, June 9, 2002, at approximately 9:00 P.M., Devonshire Area patrol officers responded to a citizen generated radio call regarding multiple shots fired in the 14600 block of Rayen Street, in Panorama City. Upon their arrival, the officers located the victim of several upper body gunshot wounds lying on a sidewalk. LAFD rescue ambulance personnel transported the victim to Holy Cross Hospital, where he remained in critical condition following surgery.
The preliminary investigation revealed the shooter approached the victim on foot, while the victim was in the company of the shooter’s ex-girlfriend. The suspect left the location in a dark colored compact vehicle that was driven by a second male. The weapon was described as a handgun. The suspect’s vehicle and weapon are outstanding.
The victim was identified as Jesus Guzman, a twenty-six year-old resident of Panorama City. Investigators are attempting to establish the true identity of the shooter, and the case remains under investigation.
