WHY:
In the last two weeks, at least three severe hit and run collisions have occurred in the Jefferson Park area. On January 5, 2022, 46-year-old pedestrian Nallely Oregel was walking her dog on 4th Ave at 30th St when a silver mid-size SUV traveling at a high rate of speed ran off the roadway onto the sidewalk and struck her and her dog. On January 7, 2022, 25-year-old Giovanny Castro was traveling southbound Western Ave at 29th St on a scooter when he was struck from behind by a gray compact vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. On January 11, 2022, a male pedestrian was struck by a maroon Chevy Trailblazer as he was walking eastbound in the westbound lanes. The male victim remains on life support as he sustained massive head trauma. In all three instances the drivers/suspects failed to stop and/or render aid to the victims. South Traffic Detectives are conducting the investigations. South Traffic Detectives located CCTV video in all three cases and will be releasing video/images of the suspects. We’ll also be announcing the $25,000 reward for any information leading to the identity, arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for striking the victims of all three cases.
