On Saturday, October 2, 1999, at approximately 9:24 p.m., Foothill Area patrol officers responded to a "Shots Fired" radio call at Van Nuys Boulevard and Woodman Avenue in Arleta. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a shooting had occurred at the location.
The investigation revealed that Andrew Garcia, a 24 year-old resident of Pacoima was driving a 1968 Chevy Impala and was stopped at a traffic signal at the above intersection. While Garcia was stopped there along with three male Hispanic passengers, unidentified suspects driving an unknown type car stopped behind Garcia and fired numerous gunshots at Garcia and the three occupants of the Impala. All four occupants in the car were struck by the gunfire. The victims were able to drive themselves to a local hospital where they received medical treatment for their gunshot wounds.
Unfortunately, one of the occupants of Garcia’s car, Henry Manuel Gonzales, a 27-year-old resident of Pacoima, died from his wounds. Victims Miguel Garcia, a 27-year-old resident of Pacoima, Loupe Romoro, a 31-year-old resident of Arleta, and Andrew Garcia were treated for their wounds and released from the local hospital.
The firearm(s) and suspect(s) involved in this drive-by shooting are still outstanding and the Los Angeles Police Department is seeking assistance from the community. Any witnesses or others with information, please call 818-834-3115 or 818-834-3113.
Foothill Area Detectives, L. Gligorijevic and T. Gonzalez, under the direction of Captain Diljeet Singh, Foothill Operation Support Division Commanding Officer, are handling the investigation.
