Two Fatal Shootings in Hollywood Last Night

Los Angeles: A man was killed and a woman wounded during a drive-by shooting in the 5200 block of Sunset Boulevard last night, March 28, 2007, and another man was found dead around 4:00 A.M. in another part of town. Detectives do not believe the shootings are related.

Around 11:30 last night, a 41-year-old Hispanic man was shot in the head and killed and a 44-year-old woman was shot in the shoulder during a drive-by shooting in Hollywood.

The man and woman were walking in the parking lot of the 99-cent store when a white car drove by. Occupants yelled the name of a gang and fired.

Around 4:00 o’clock this morning officers in Hollywood answered a report of a man found shot in the head, lying on the sidewalk near the corner of Beachwood Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard.

The man has not been identified, but he is Hispanic and in his twenties.

Through last Saturday, homicides stood at three, the same number for the same period last year. The homicide rate in Hollywood is among the lowest in the city this year. Seven out of the 19 police stations have fewer homicides so far this year.
