"Two Year Old Killed In Traffic Collision"

Los Angeles: On Wednesday, August 16, 2000, at approximately 6:20pm, 39 year old Leon Benito Sanchez of Los Angeles, was driving his vehicle westbound on 61st Street east of Main Street. The family of two year old Chris Jose Cajina, which included his father, mother, and twin sister, were walking eastbound on 61st just east of Main Street. For unknown reasons, young Chris ran from the safety of his family and into the street into the path of the Sanchez vehicle. The vehicle collided with the child and fled from the scene northbound on Main Street. The child’s family was able to follow the vehicle to 45th Street and Wall Street where the driver attempted to enter his residence but was detained by the child’s family until the police arrived and took him into custody.

The driver of the vehicle has been booked for 20001 VC, Hit and Run Felony. The investigtion is being conducted by Central TrafficDivision Detectives. For further information please call 485-3111. The Detective in charge of the investigation is Detective Tia Morris.
