Van Nuys Homicide Update

On August 4, 1999 at about 11:16 pm, the decedent John Talavera, age 26, went to the 17000 block of Enadia Way, where he got into a dispute with John Schuller, age 26. The two argued over money that Schuller owed Talavera. The dispute escalated until Schuller pulled a gun and shot Talavera twice. Schuller fled and did not return for about 10 minutes. LAFD Rescue 87 responded and transported Talavera to Northridge Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:45 pm. When Schuller returned, Van Nuys Patrol Officers took him into custody and transported him to Van Nuys Station where he was questioned.

Schuller was later arrested and booked for murder. On August 6, the case was presented to DDA Ann Corbin, who filed 1 count of 187 PC Murder.

Thursday night, Aurea Talavera, age 60, the mother of the murder victim John Talavera, died of a heart attack as a result of the loss of her son.
