Van Nuys – On Tuesday, December 26, 2000, at 9:42 p.m., Devonshire Area Patrol officers responded to the 15200 block of Acre Street regarding a possible Assault with a Deadly Weapon (ADW) crime, with shots fired. Officers arrived in minutes, but were unable to locate a victim or a witness. At 9:56 p.m., other Devonshire Area patrol officers responded to Mission Community Hospital located at 14850 Roscoe Boulevard regarding a similar radio call. The officers learned that several citizens observed the victim, a 19-year-old male Van Nuys resident, attempting to crawl toward his vehicle. The citizens transported the victim to the hospital in a private vehicle. The attending physician pronounced the victim dead at 9:56 p.m. The victim died as a result of an unspecified number of gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Neighboring residents notified the investigating officers at the crime scene that two unknown male individuals ran from the area shortly after the gunshots were heard.

Devonshire detectives are attempting to locate additional witnesses. The motive for the murder has not been established, and the suspect is unknown. The location of the shooting is an area plagued with narcotic sales and gang activity.
