"Victim at Restaurant is Shot and Killed"
Hollywood – On Monday, May 22, 2000 at approximately 5:15 p.m., the victim was sitting in front of a restaurant located at the southwest corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Kenmore Avenue. Three male Hispanic suspects, one of which was armed with a 9mm handgun, approached the victim. The armed suspect confronted the victim and asked him, "where you from?" The suspect then fired several shots at the victim who fell mortally wounded to the pavement in front of the restaurant. All three suspects then fled on foot to a vehicle waiting nearby which eventually fled southbound on Kenmore Avenue.
Officers assigned to Metropolitan Division working crime suppression in the area observed the aftermath of the shooting and stopped to investigate. Witnesses at the scene provided information of the suspects and vehicle which was immediately broadcast to responding units. Officers observed the suspect’s fleeing the area a short distance from the crime scene. The officers followed the suspect vehicle to a residential area where suspects stopped, exited their vehicle and fled on foot. One armed suspect was taken into custody near the vehicle. Another possible suspect was taken into custody a short distance away. The armed suspect was subsequently booked for murder.
The victim was transported from the scene to a local hospital where despite emergency medical treatment, succumbed to his injuries at 6:00 p.m..
This crime is gang related. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
