Victims Shot At While Driving Through Neighborhood

Hollenbeck Homicide Detectives are investigating the murder of a male Hispanic and the attempted murder of his cousin that occurred on Saturday, November 13, 1999, at approximately 11:30 a.m.

The two victims were driving southbound in the 900 block of Blades Street when unknown suspects fired several rounds at them from an unknown type weapon. Victim #2 was able to flee the location and drove his vehicle to the area of Winter Street and Hicks Street. A Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputy was conducting an unrelated investigation at the 3300 block of Winter Street and observed the victims inside their vehicle. The deputy sheriff requested the Los Angeles County Paramedics to respond to his location.

Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Subsequently victim #1 succumbed to his injuries at the scene and died. Victim #2 was transported to USC Medical Center where he is listed in serious but stable condition. The motive is unknown at this time and the names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Detectives Teague and Armador are handling the investigation.
