"A Woman Dies From A Domestic Violence Incident"

Granada Hills – On March 28, 2000, at 9:35 a.m., Devonshire Area Patrol officers responded to the 16700 block of Lahey Avenue for a radio call of an ADW. A co-worker had responded to check on the victim after she failed to show for work on March 28, 2000. The co-worker discovered the victim lying unconscious on the living room floor. LAFD paramedic personnel determined the victim had incurred multiple injuries to her body from apparent blunt force trauma. The victim was transported to a local hospital by a RA unit, where she remained in extremely critical condition. There was no suspect at the scene and no signs of forced entry.

The follow-up investigation by Devonshire Area Homicide Detectives led to the identification of a male, 49 years old, Martin Zahorik, a former boyfriend who was currently living with the victim. Following the commission of the crime Devonshire Detectives began checking locations the suspect had been seen in the north end of the San Fernando Valley. On March 31,2000, at 5:00 p.m., the detectives observed the suspect riding his bicycle on the campus of the California State University at Northridge. The detectives arrested the suspect with the assistance of the CSUN Police Department.

The investigation was presented to a District Attorney of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, on April 4,2000. Charges of attempt murder and Domestic Violence related enhancements were secured on arrestee Martin Zahorik. He remains in custody with the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department with bail determined at $1,020,000.

On April 4,2000, at 12:40 a.m., the victim sucummed to her injuries she sustained, at the hospital. The victim was identified as female, 50 years old, by the name of Lynda Sullo. The investigation is still pending resubmission to the District Attorney for further consideration with regard to the victim’s demise.
