Los Angeles Fire Department rescue personnel responded and transported both women to a local hospital where the driver of the car was pronounced dead. The woman was later identified as a 64-year-old Los Angeles resident. The passenger sustained severe injuries and is currently in stable condition.

The investigation also revealed that the car had been involved in a hit and run traffic collision on 8th Street and Westmoreland Boulevard prior to the above incident.During this collision, the woman was traveling eastbound on 8th Street, making a left turn onto Westmoreland Boulevard. As the woman made the turn, she collided with another car traveling westbound on 8th Street. The woman then drove away from the scene northbound on Westmoreland Boulevard. There were no injuries during that collision. The detectives have determined that the primary factor in the collisions was unsafe speed for roadway conditions.
