Los Angeles: On March 14, 2021, approximately 4:40 p.m., Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Hollenbeck Division responded to a radio call of domestic violence and violation of a restraining order. The officers contacted the suspect, Maria Vasquez, and a use of force occurred where the suspect’s fifth digit (pinky finger) of her left hand was fractured and lacerated.
The officers requested Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics and they responded to the location and transported the suspect to a local hospital.
On March 15, 2021 at 3:20 a.m., the LAPD’s Force Investigation Division (FID) was notified by the Hollenbeck watch commander of the incident. Detectives from FID responded to the hospital, determined Vasquez was admitted for injuries sustained during the use of force incident, and confirmed that this case will be investigated as a categorical use of force.
There were no officers injured during this incident.
