Woman Killed on Christmas Eve by Drunk Driver

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division Detectives are investigating a fatal collision that occurred early Christmas morning.

On December 25, 2002 at 12:10 a.m., 23 year-old Wilmington resident Raul Trinidad Sanchez was driving eastbound on Q Street when the vehicle he was driving collided with another car.
The other driver, 60 year-old Manuel Madrigal, was not seriously injured. However, Madrigal’s wife, 60 year-old Alice Madrigal of Wilmington, was pinned inside the vehicle and extricated by responding Los Angeles Fire Department personnel.
Paramedics responded to the scene, and transported Madrigal to Harbor UCLA General Hospital for the trauma she sustained. Failing to respond to emergency medical treatment, Madrigal was pronounced dead by attending physicians.
The initial investigation revealed that Sanchez was traveling at a high rate of speed and was driving under the influence of alcohol. Taken into custody at the scene, Sanchez was booked for Vehicular Manslaughter and held for $110,000.00 bail.
